iMessage is not more compliant than WhatsApp

iMessage is not more compliant than WhatsApp

Consultant tells client "don't WhatsApp — iMessage me, it's safer." Police cert lives in Messages for six months, never on file. A practice inspection looks for a coherent client file — not Apple's colour palette.

Direct answer

iMessage is not a substitute for a client file for RCIC document collection — same operational rule as WhatsApp. Use it as a channel; file uploads onto checklist lines the same day when practical; log communication separately. Hivi-X does not import iMessage.

Blue bubble mythology

MythReality
"End-to-end encrypted = complete client file"Encryption ≠ retention, QC, or missing-item index
"Apple Business Chat is official"Still not your supporting-document store
"Photos don't compress on iMessage"Users still send wrong crops and screenshots
"Mac syncs everything to the file"Syncs to Messages, not your checklist

GTA iPhone-heavy client bases often mean iMessage volume rivals WhatsApp — treat both the same way.

Same-day filing rule

  1. Guest link is default — email OTP even for iPhone users when that fits your process.
  2. iMessage arrival → save → upload to the named checklist line before end of day when practical.
  3. Reject on checklist — do not ask for "better one on iMessage" as the only path.
  4. Communication log — date, channel, summary. See RCIC communication log.
  5. Do not ITA-submit from chat attachments alone — export an approved checklist package first.

Frequently asked questions

Is iMessage compliant for RCIC document collection?
As a channel, practices often use it. As the only copy of supporting documents, it is a weak client file — CICC file rules typically expect supporting docs and correspondence on the file, not stranded in a phone thread. iMessage threads are not indexed missing-item lists.
Does iMessage sync to Hivi-X?
No. Save media and upload to the correct checklist line manually the same day.
Are iMessage photos better quality than WhatsApp?
Sometimes — QC still rejects blur and wrong crops. Channel quality does not replace checklist approve/reject.
What about iMessage on Mac office computers?
Office Macs mixing personal Apple IDs and client PII create custody and privacy issues. File to checklist; log communication.
Should RCICs ban iMessage?
Unrealistic for many GTA clients. Ban using chat as the only copy of documents.
