Parent and grandparent sponsorship document package for RCICs
Parent and grandparent sponsorship document package for RCICs
Parent and grandparent sponsorship (PGP) is a two-household file. The sponsor sits in Ontario with CRA records; the applicants often sit overseas with civil-status documents IRCC will not chase.
Direct answer
Build one Hivi-X checklist with sponsor lines (status, IMM 1344, income, co-signer) and applicant lines (identity, relationship, police certificates, medicals). Share a guest link so parents can upload without an account. Cross-check against IRCC parent and grandparent sponsorship and the live portal checklist.
Two packages, one dashboard
| Side | Typical documents (confirm on canada.ca) | Common QC failure |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsor | Invitation letter, IMM 1344, status in Canada, co-signer IDs, CRA Notices of Assessment | Wrong tax year; missing co-signer; Quebec vs rest-of-Canada mix-up |
| Applicants | Passports, birth certificates proving relationship, marriage documents, police certificates, medicals, translations | Relationship document does not name the host; police cert too old for current country |
IRCC's sponsor kit includes Document Checklist — Sponsor [IMM 5771] and Guide 5772. Those are the operational source of truth — not a generic “family class” list.
Income proof is the sponsor bottleneck
Minimum necessary income is a legal eligibility issue you advise on; the document problem is getting complete CRA packages off email.
Typical collection lines:
- CRA Notice of Assessment for each year IRCC currently requires
- If a co-signer: the same years for the co-signer
- Proof the co-signer is a spouse or common-law partner when that is the basis for combining income
Hivi-X does not compute MNI. Reject files that are missing pages or are screenshots of the summary line only.
Overseas applicants and guest upload
Parents in India, China, or the Philippines should not be asked to “make a Google account.” The secure guest link (email OTP) is the intake channel; your coordinator rejects unreadable civil-status scans. See guest link for overseas clients.
Super visa is not a shortcut template
Many Ontario clients ask for super visa in parallel or instead. That file needs host insurance, host invitation content, and medicals on a different template: super visa document collection.
Related: spousal sponsorship package, proof of funds (Express Entry) — different income rules; do not merge templates.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the core sponsor form for parent and grandparent sponsorship?
- The Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking (IMM 1344) is completed and digitally signed by the sponsor, any co-signer, and the person being sponsored. Confirm the current kit on canada.ca — IRCC also publishes a sponsor document checklist (IMM 5771).
- Why do PGP files stall in Ontario practices?
- Sponsor income proof (CRA Notices of Assessment) and overseas police certificates move on different clocks. Emailing both sides separately hides which package is incomplete.
- Can the parents upload without a my-id.ca account?
- Yes. Share a secure guest link; they verify email with a one-time code. The sponsor in Brampton can use the same checklist from the portal or another guest session.
- Does Hivi-X calculate minimum necessary income?
- No. Income thresholds and family-size rules change. You interpret CRA documents; Hivi-X only collects and tracks whether the uploads exist and pass your QC.
- Is super visa the same checklist?
- No. Super visa is a temporary resident path with host insurance and medical requirements. Use a separate template — see the super visa guide in this folder.
