Proof of funds screenshots are not bank statements

Proof of funds screenshots are not bank statements

The balance shows $42,318.07 on a phone screen. IRCC asks for an official bank letter.

Direct answer

Reject mobile-app screenshots on the proof-of-funds checklist line. Collect official letters from banks or financial institutions per current Express Entry instructions — then QC fields before portal upload.

What IRCC describes as proof (confirm live)

IRCC’s Express Entry proof-of-funds guidance states you need official letters printed on the financial institution’s letterhead, including:

Required element (IRCC themes)Why it matters
Institution contact informationAddress, telephone, email
Your nameMatches the applicant
Outstanding debtsCredit cards, loans — as held with that institution
Per account: numbersIdentifies each account
Per account: date openedHistory of the account
Per account: current balanceFunds available now
Per account: average balance past 6 monthsStability over time

A screenshot of a balance tile is not that letter.

Checklist structure

  1. Bank letter — institution A (and B, C as needed)
  2. Exemption explanation letter — only if IRCC says funds proof is not required for that profile
  3. Supporting statements — only as counsel/practice policy adds them; they do not replace the letter IRCC describes
  4. Advice note — currency/access issues logged separately

Hivi-X does not auto-alert when a letter ages; note dates in the file.

Frequently asked questions

Does IRCC accept banking app screenshots as proof of funds?
IRCC’s Express Entry proof-of-funds page tells applicants to get official letters from banks/financial institutions. Screenshots are not a substitute for that letter. Always re-check the live IRCC page for your file.
What must the bank letter include?
Per IRCC’s published list: letterhead with institution contact info; your name; outstanding debts; and for each account — account numbers, date opened, current balance, and average balance for the past 6 months. Confirm the live page if wording changes.
How handle joint accounts?
Funds must be legally accessible. Follow current IRCC rules for joint accounts and document advice in the file — this article is not legal advice.
What if the client is exempt from proof of funds?
Some applicants (for example certain CEC or job-offer situations described by IRCC) may upload an explanation letter instead. Verify exemption against current IRCC instructions before skipping funds lines.
Does Hivi-X check the settlement-fund amount?
No. Your team QCs documents against IRCC’s current requirements and amount tables.
