Personal lines intake vs commercial submission tools

Personal lines intake vs commercial submission tools

Your commercial producer needs loss runs and a SOV. Your CSR needs a G2 abstract by 4 p.m. One "document portal" marketed as both often serves neither.

Direct answer

Personal lines: high volume, short checklists, portal QC, CSR co-agent, BMS export — Hivi-X sweet spot.

Commercial: heavier packages, loss runs, commercial checklist, longer cycles — same checklist mechanics, different templates and staff.

Don't bolt commercial SOV complexity onto every tenant policy file.

Why the split is operational, not marketing

Personal-lines auto and habitational files move on same-day CSR volume: driver abstracts, prior-insurer letters, phone-photo QC, quote-to-bind promotion. Commercial submissions move on underwriter packages: multi-year loss runs, statements of values, exposure schedules, and MGA or market binders. Staff, cycle time, and reject criteria differ — one bloated template slows both desks.

RIBO expects producible client files and (for auto) documented quote activity under take-all-comers themes. That does not mean personal and commercial use the same document checklist. Principal-broker guidance also often discusses longer commercial file retention than the baseline books-and-records period — confirm retention with your principal broker; do not invent a single statutory list here.

Ontario brokerage blunt take

Strip-mall personal lines pays the rent. Give CSRs a real intake layer. Commercial keeps submission discipline — don't fake unify for vendor slide decks.

Not shipped: commercial rating, automated loss-run ordering, single AMS/BMS replacement, auto reminders to markets.

Frequently asked questions

Can Hivi-X handle commercial submissions?
Commercial checklist templates exist — scope is document collection, not rating complex commercial towers.
Why split personal vs commercial mentally?
Different speed, doc types, and staff — mixing causes CSR templates bloated with SOV lines on a G2 auto file.
Same portal for commercial clients?
Yes if you want — separate templates per line of business.
Applied Epic for both?
BMS stays; intake layer still helps personal lines most.
Loss runs automation?
Not shipped — upload to named commercial lines manually.

Organize broker client files without the email chase

Hivi-X helps Ontario insurance brokers collect application documents with reusable checklists, a Canadian-hosted client portal, self-hosted AI summaries, and exportable PDF packages for Applied, Epic, SIG, or your BMS. Hivi-X is document-collection software — it does not replace your BMS or guarantee RIBO compliance.
